Recent studies show that many elderly people suffer from what "experts" are calling "social isolation". Many seniors are separated from their families by time and distance as they often lose their spouse or close friends over time or their grown children move away. In addition to dementia and diabetes, seniors living alone are prone to injury, lack a proper diet and suffer occasional depression. Once weakness sets in, they tend to go down a worsening path of poor health. In these cases, residential care may be the answer. Highland Home for Senior's has been the answer for many families and residents for over 20 years. Since Highland Home For Senior's is small and "homelike". It is more acceptable to people who are resisting concerned family member's placement recommendation.

Do you know what Residential Care is?
It is not a Nursing Home. It is not appropriate for anyone who is in a wheelchair or who is bedfast. It is a facility which offers nursing care, medication administration, personal care services such as meal preparation, housekeeping, laundry services, exercise, activities and staffed 24 hours a day.
Who is eligible to live there?
Anyone who can mentally and physically negotiate a path to safety in the event of an emergency is eligible for a Residential Care.
How does a residential care home differ from a nursing home?
From the appearance to the type of care, there are very few similarities between the two. All residents of residential care in Missouri must be physically and mentally capable of negotiating a path to safety in the event of an emergency. In addition, we offer a true home environment in a residential neighborhood centrally located in a small town with a capacity for only 16 senior adults.
How do I know the most appropriate level of care for myself or loved one?
Ask a couple of questions. Does my loved one or myself need more help than is available at home? If a problem should arise, like a fall, is someone there to offer assistance? Is full skilled care necessary to address the needs being encountered? Based on the answers to these questions a picture should begin to emerge as to whether care is needed and the level most appropriate.
What if we do not have a great deal of income to pay for these services?
Don't worry. We participate in a program called the Personal Care Program which helps those with limited incomes afford the cost of residential care. We offer all services for one low, monthly fee. If your income is limited and you qualify for financial assistance, you are only obligated to pay what you can afford. This makes our services available to almost anyone!
